Lottery to be held on February 12, 2010

As of the January 22, 2010, deadline, more than 467 students had submitted registration information for next fall. The school only will accept 250 students for next year’s freshman class.

Due to the increased interest in GSMST, Gwinnett County Public Schools will use a lottery process to randomly select students for next year’s class. GSMST applicants have been assigned a lottery number and were notified of this number via an email confirming the receipt of their application. A letter with their lottery number, as well as the lottery time, date, and location is being sent to the applicants.

The lottery will be held Friday, February 12, 2010, at 8 a.m. in the Board Room at the Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee. Following the drawing of the 250 open enrollment spots, the remaining numbers will be drawn and noted in order of drawing to create a waiting list. As any 9th grade enrolled student withdraws his/her name from enrollment, a waiting list student will be contacted in the order drawn and offered enrollment.

As those selected for enrollment will be notified on February 12 by email and mail of the lottery results, there is no requirement for parents and students to attend the lottery. However, the lottery is open to the public.

Gwinnett Student Leadership Team (GSLT) Applications Last Changed
2010-01-27

GSMST is now accepting applications from rising juniors who are interested in becoming a member of the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team (GSLT). Three students will be selected by a committee comprised of the current GSLT members, counselors, and administration. Members of our GSLT meet monthly with other student leaders from across the county and are introduced to a core curriculum of leadership skills. Students then use these skills to enhance the function of leadership at GSMST by shaping culture and performance. The selection committee will be looking for students who possess outstanding leadership and communication skills, as well as those who are able to think creatively and maturely about how best to serve GSMST. Interested students may download the application below, or stop by the counseling office for a hard copy. Applications are due to the counseling office no later than Monday, February 8th.

Snow Make Up Dates Last Changed
2010-01-12

Just a reminder that the school district amended its school calendar in October to include flood make-up days and additional snow make-up days.

The days missed earlier in the fall due to the flooding in the Atlanta area will be made up on Feb. 12 and March 15.

The day missed due to inclement weather on Friday, January 8, will be made up on Feb. 15 (snow make-up day #1).

If these make-up days are not used, April 2 will be a holiday for students and staff and May 27 will be a required staff development day.- The school calendar has two remaining days designated as snow make-up days. Should the district need to close again for inclement weather those days would be made up on April 2 (snow make-up day #2) and May 27 (snow make-up day #3).Just a reminder that the school district amended its school calendar in October to include flood make-up days and additional snow make-up days.
